John Dryden (Short Biography)
John Studied for a BA Honours Degree, Durham University in the early 1960s.
Appeared in London’s West End in several long-running productions. For 6 years he appeared as JD in BBCTV’s “The Sunday Gang”.In the 1970s John started to direct professionally, everything from Shakespeare to Agatha Christie. Directed and designed in Paris for MONDE ET THEATRE, worked in Switzerland, Hamburg, and the USA. John toured Africa for the British Council with Shakespeare performances, including lectures and Drama workshops. He directed a production of Jesus Christ Superstar in Mauritius with a cast of 150.
He has acted and directed in many UK theatres, playing the lead roles in HAMLET, THE ELEPHANT MAN, THE DRESSER, THE LION IN WINTER and has made several television appearances, including THE BILL, 2 POINT 4 CHILDREN, WUTHERING HEIGHTS, BBC 999 RESCUE, WINGS, TRUE CRIMES, PARDON MY GENIE, KNOCK KNOCK.
In the seventies John started teaching drama and directing productions for several London Drama schools including Mountview Academy and LAMDA. Prior to moving to Corfu, John was Head of Performing Arts at Chichester College in West Sussex, UK.
He feels there is a need for an English speaking theatre in Corfu and hopes many people will feel this is a venture worth supporting.
