Ilias Taverna can be found in the traditional hillside village of Avliotes in north-west Corfu. It is situated in an enviable position, shaded by grape vines, and has stunning views across the village and surrounding countryside. If you are staying in the neighbouring resort of Agios (San) Stefanos you can walk to Avliotes (about 5 kilometres) or use the local bus service, making Ilias Taverna a perfect place to visit for lunch or dinner and enjoy freshly prepared Corfiot dishes. It is a relaxing place to spend an afternoon or evening and experience ‘real’ Greek village life.
Ilias Taverna is owned and run by the Mouzakitis family, George, Ilias, Eleni and Maria, who produce their sumptuous menu using locally sourced ingredients and recipes handed down through the family. Such delights include freshly made Taramasalata and Tsatziki, Grilled Octopus, Stuffed Peppers with Feta, Biftekia, Lamb Krassato, Sofrito and Souvlaki. (To see photos of some of the dishes on the menu click here.) The family also make their own wine which complements their menu and can be ordered by the glass or jug.
George and his family would love to see you at their taverna not only to enjoy their wonderful mezes and meals, but also to have the opportunity to wander around the village and explore the small streets and lanes, or perhaps visit one of the churches and enjoy the spectacular views of the village and the coast below.
If you decide to walk to Avliotes from San Stefanos you should allow around 40 minutes. If you catch the local bus or take a taxi, check with your hotel reception for the latest timetable or taxi rates. If driving to the village there is plenty of off-road parking in the village square next to the Music School, just below the taverna.
Ilias Taverna is open all year. From 12.00 to 16.00 and 19.00 to 23.00 in the summer and from 19.00 to 23.00 from November to April.
